Launched on 5th February, 2008, Himachal Pradesh was the first state in the country to establish a State Wide Area Network as an e-Governance initiative to create a Citizen-Government interface which is backed by a dedicated high speed line connecting all sub division, tehsils, sub-tehsils, blocks and even panchayats. The network in operation is providing dynamic and interactive information from departments like Rural Development, Excise & Taxation, Police and others for a time saving, transparent and better governance processes.
Dedicated and secured Network Connectivity is essential to ensure smooth and reliable service delivery at the grassroots. HIMSWAN connectivity is the backbone to ensure seamless deliver of G2C services. The State Government established Himachal Pradesh State Wide Area Network (HIMSWAN), a Mission Mode Project under National eGovernance Plan of MeitY, Government of India. HIMSWAN has been operational in the State since 2008 and as on date is providing connectivity to more than 2500 offices across the State.
