Son of Smt Rachita Butail & Shri Dinesh Butail; born on April 17,1989 at Palampur, Kangra. Bachelors in Mechanical and Aeropsace Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, married to Akshi Sharma ; two sons. He is also an Hotelier, Entrepreneur and involved in plantation of the historic Kangra Tea. He served as Advisor, Information Technology to Hon’ble Chief Minister, HP from 2014-2017.
Served as National Joint Secretary, All India Congress Committee from from 2018-2023.

Appointed as Principal Advisor to Chief Minister, Innovation, Digital Technologies and Governance in the Rank of Cabinet Minister (2022-2026), continues to serve as Principal Advisor to Chief Minister, Innovation, Digital Technologies and Governance.

Serves in Board of Director at IIT Mandi Catalyst, Startup Incubator and Trustee of Bundla Tea Estate Charitable Trust.

Notably , Gokul Butail withdraws Rs 1 as the salary from the State Exchequer as an austerity measure.
